Aging Population: One of China's major obstacles is its rapidly aging population, a by-product of its controversial one-child policy. The China National Committee on Aging recently said that sometime between 2030 and 2050, there will be only two workers for every retiree — down from the current ratio of six workers to one retiree. Two companies at the forefront of this crisis is China Life Insurance (LFC), a company which had 102 million individual and group life insurance policies by the end of 2008, and Wuxi PharmaTech (WX), a major pharmaceutical company.

Internet Boom: To invest in China's Internet boom, have a look at Baidu.com (BIDU), a company providing Chinese language Internet search services, and KongZhong (KONG), a provider of wireless entertainment. Internet analysts like Henry Blodget have pointed out that China has, by and large, missed out on the development of the television, radio, film, and newspaper industries, so the Internet should rapidly garner an even larger share of media and communications usage, making Baidu.com and KongZhong worth a closer look.

Energy Demand: China's rapid economic growth needs energy, and lots of it.
